The delegation led by Justice Minister Fikrat Mammadov participated in the 5th Annual Conference and General Meeting of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA) in Morocco. Chief of the Anti-Corruption Department under Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan Kamran Aliyev gave information about the measures taken in Azerbaijan to combat corruption.

Fund of Struggle against Corruption realises the project “Increasing transparency and enlightening the National Strategy on Combating Corruption in the regions” with the financial support of The Councel of State Support to NGOs under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The main goal of the project is to organise public control over struggle against corruption policy in the regions of Azerbaijan held by the president and give legal aid to the population in combatting corruption.
Within the frames of the project the next event was held in Sumqayit with the participation of the representatives of local state bodies, society, Mass Media, entrepreneurs as well as, the representatives of the oppositioner parties, educational, health and other insitutions. Execution of the “National Strategy” was discussed by the participants. The event was held in the form of debate. The entrepreneurs were more active. It is interesting that all the sides consider the President’s policy of combatting corruption very important. State officials also were very active and speeches of the representatives of Sumqayit Community Service and other local state bodies, political and public organizations were significant.

It was interesting that state bodies didn’t try to avoid these discussions, on the contrary they were very active.

The Prosecutor General’s Office issued a statement on several corruption cases, Press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office told that Vahid Gulmaliyev, chairman of Medical Social-Expert Commission #11 of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population was caught red-handed while taking bribe from the second grade disabled Talib Farajov for re-examination on determination of grade of disability.
Criminal case was launched on the fact, Vahid Gulmaliyev was sentenced to pre-trial restriction.

An education official was arrested for corruption charges in Azerbaijan, law-enforcement sources informed.
Staff officer of the Lachin region’s education department Adil Jabbarov was detained as a result of operations conducted by the anti-corruption department of the General Prosecutor’s Office.
The court passed decision on his judicial restraint.

“Combating corruption is one the major tasks of the Prosecutor General’s Office. We think that this struggle is not on the desired level,” Azerbaijani Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov told journalists.
He said under the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev, measures are being taken to improve the activity of the Department to Combat Corruption under Prosecutor General. “An expert group has been set up, the number of the employees and the salaries have been increased. Struggle against corruption will become more serious after strict measures are taken in the short run,” he said.
